About the Study

What is it?

Milton has partnered with WSP Canada Group for developing a five year Transit Master Plan for 2019-2023, to be done in 2018/2019. The plan will review and recommend service improvements, introduce new innovative services and implement advanced technologies to support Milton Transit service growth.

Why is Milton doing this Master Plan?

The population is expected to grow from 110,000 currently to 228,000 by 2031. Milton is a place of possibility for residents, businesses, students and visitors. New developments like a university campus, innovation centre and local GO Transit upgrades will change the community landscape. To support these initiatives, Milton Transit will need to grow and adapt.

The Service Review and Master Plan will help prioritize and provide direction over the next five years.

The key objectives of the Transit Master Plan are:

  1. To develop short term, mid-term and long term recommendations for improvements that will result in an improved service delivery and efficiency strategy.
  2. To complete a review of existing transit services, both conventional and specialized, and clarify the Town’s strategic priorities for delivery of services and operations, while focusing on the overall quality, performance and efficiency of transit services and on the role transit plays in Milton.

    - Intergrate Presto

    - Create heat activated shelters at major stops

    - Offer live time arrival updates at bus shelters

    - Create a mobile app that provides real time bus arrivals

    - Offer more express service from Milton to major destinations such as Union Station (Go Train) or North York (Yonge-Sheppard, Finch).

    Example::

GO Bus 27C goes from Milton to North York VIA Mississauga

There are quite a few of us that drive to Mississauga because the GO timing from Milton to Meadowdale far exceeds the drive itself

Implementing express route to avoid Mississauga will ease the congestion on the... Continue reading

    Integrating with the GO

by geminian, almost 6 years ago

I believe Milton Transit integrates well with the GO train station and train timings, not really sure about the same for the GO bus station at Hwy401. More importantly, I strongly believe Milton Transit should adopt the Presto card system for seamless travel between the GO and Milton. Right now, lack of a viable payment option and a decent tracking of schedules is a reason why I do not use Milton Transit all that often.

I would also suggest having Milton Transit and GO Train/Bus timings at all major bus shelters/stops.
