Triple Bottom Line

I would like to see more commitment to sustainable development as we move forward and looking at projects through the valuation of ecosystem services and a triple bottom line sustainability lens. It would be nice if there was more longterm, forward thinking considerations.

As a Mom who spent countless hours commuting to work and driving around to take kids to activities, get groceries, etc. when looking at current development proposals, I would like to see our town moving away from car-centric sprawl and creating more connected bike and active transport routes that are protected or completely separate from cars and other vehicles on the road. Moving forward I'd like to see an increased use of nature-based solutions that allow us to mitigate emissions and increase our towns ability to sequester the carbon that we do emit.

Many municipalities across Canada have made a strong commitments to going Net Zero and there are many studies from around the globe of the benefits of going down this path, not just from an environmental standpoint but as a means of strengthening economies and increasing longterm health benefits. The choices we make today shape the future of our town. Let's talk about this Milton!

For the Towns information- Net Zero is no longer the gold industry standard for development, but Triple Net Zero (Net zero Waste, Water and Energy.) This kind of development should be encouraged in reviewing development proposals.

Totally agree! Every planning and budget decision Council makes must be done through a sustainability lens. In addition to moving away from car-centric sprawl, provide incentives to encourage the development community, businesses and residents to incorporate green roofs, rain and pollinator gardens, use alternate sources of energy, etc.
