Consultation has concluded
The Town of Milton has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study to develop a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Canadian National Railway Line between Louis St. Laurent Avenue and Britannia Road. With lots of homes, schools and parks on both sides of the rail corridor, the Town has identified the need to provide better and safer ways to access these places of interest in the community.
This study is building on the recommendations of the Boyne Survey Secondary Plan (2017), and was conducted in accordance with the requirements for a Schedule ‘C’ Municipal Class EA project as outlined in the Municipal Class EA document (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015).
Preferred design
The preferred design for the proposed bridge includes a Tied Arch Bridge structure with Hanger Cables and “S” shaped approaches. Both the structure and approaches will include a six-metre-wide multi-use path and railings to provide safety.
Design features:
Provides connection to the future north-south and east-west walkways on the west side
Compatible with future development. The ramp and bridge can function as a unique landmark in the area, visible from the immediately adjacent future development.
Location of rest areas will provide the best views to the Future District Park and Niagara Escarpment
Requires the lowest amount of vegetation removal
No impacts anticipated to the channel block of the regulated watercourse I-NE-1B-1, as a result of construction of a retaining wall.
Lowest construction cost, compared to the other alternatives.
Environmental study report - Final report now available
A Notice of Study Completion was issued for the Class Environmental Assessment for this project and the Environmental Study Report was made available for a formal review period from August 5, 2021 to September 8, 2021. Comments received in response to the Notice of Study Completion were reviewed by the Study Team and incorporated into the Environmental Study Report, where required.
